My Story
I am an attorney, author and storyteller committed to creating films that depict authentic narratives of underrepresented communities — told in our words as seen through our own eyes, whether in fiction or real life. I aspire to break barriers that have long shaped the film industry, opening doors for minorities and women in spaces traditionally reserved for others–this is where my passion lies.
Through my writing, I aim to tell the truth — through the personal experiences of my characters — and to show the resilience, humor, and humanity that connect us all. After receiving multiple awards and recognition for my short film He Only Hit Me Four Times, I know there is space and demand for this type of storytelling.
As a screenwriter, I am committed to writing films for both the big and small screen, reaching audiences worldwide. My goal is to contribute stories that not only entertain but challenge, empower, and expand what film can be — making sure women, people of color and other marginalized voices — thrive as an integral part of the industry.
Accolades and Honors
As a first-time writer and director with no prior experience, I was thrilled that my film He Only Hit Me Four Times was well received. It was an incredible journey that led to recognition at multiple film festivals, earning awards including Best Short Film and Best Female Director.
Yet, amidst all of this, the Madrid Film Festival Award for Best Supporting Actress—earned by my daughter Teleah Joy McEachern—remains the most meaningful to me.
When I first submitted the film, I had no idea it would resonate so deeply or be received with such acclaim. Being recognized by peers in the industry has not only validated my work but also affirmed that authentic storytelling has a powerful place in film, opening doors for narratives I'm passionate about sharing and bringing to life.

My Writing Philosophy
At the heart of my work are universal truths, particularly around gender, equality, and the human spirit. My creative philosophy is grounded in the belief that storytelling should reflect deep authenticity — through stories told by us for us rather than filtered through stereotypes or “savior” narratives, written by others.
Too often, films distort the realities of gender and race, leaving out the depth, agency, and resilience that define our communities. I’m inspired by movements like Black Wall Street, where we built, supported, mentored, and taught our own — a legacy of independence and pride that I aim to mirror through my work. Through film, I seek to create spaces where our stories stand in their full power, without apology or distortion.

Embracing Global Rhythms
My explorations across diverse continents have been more than just travel; they have offered a view of humanity, profoundly illuminating distinctive rhythms, shared struggles, and inherent poetic resilience woven into the fabric of culture.
Each journey has unveiled new understanding, enriching my perspective and creative spirit in unique ways. From the dynamic oral traditions of West Africa, which taught me the power of rhythmic prose and communal narrative voices, to the nuanced symbolic language and interconnected social structures of Middle East. Each experience has influenced my approach to character development and layered thematic exploration.
I’ve drawn from the landscapes and vibrant ties of Latin American societies, to the unique niche communities of color in Europe, which have shaped my storytelling with a sense of passion and authentic human connection. These rich experiences have become the bedrock of my writing.
